We have some heartbreaking news to tell you in the Alberta/Saskatchewan border town of Lloydminster: Stingray announced today that small-market TV stations CITL-DT (CTV) and CKSA-DT (Citytv) closed down for good, effective immediately. The statements posted on both station's websites said that "While this chapter is ending, the memories and connections created will always remain a cherished part of our legacy." CKSA first signed on the air in September 1960 as a private CBC TV affiliate, which would stay that way for the next 56 years until the CBC's last remaining privately owned affiliate switched to Global in 2016, then CKSA switched over to Citytv in December 2021, while CITL has been a CTV affiliate since the station first signed on back in July 1976. Both stations were owned by Midwest Television until 2005, when it was sold to Newcap, then sold to Stingray in October 2018 after Newcap was sold.
