Remembering Darren Dutchyshen

Darren Dutchyshen, the longtime host of TSN's SportsCentre, has passed away yesterday at the age of 57.


Dutchy started his broadcasting career at then-independent station CFSK Saskatoon (aka STV, now a Global Television Network station), then he moved to Dauphin, MB to work at IMTV, after that, he moved to Edmonton to work at the longtime independent station ITV (now Global Edmonton) as a host for the sports highlight show Sports Night up until 1995, where he joined TSN at that point, starting with host for the network's Canadian Football League coverage, then hosting the weekend editions of SportsDesk/SportsCentre first, then he moved over to host the weeknight editions in 2000.


During his time at ITV in Edmonton, he also hosted a daily radio sportcast for now co-owned radio station CHED.


While he worked with TSN during his tenure, he was an Olympic nighttime host during TSN's coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, UK.


On September 9, 2021, Dutchyshen announced that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but he came back to TSN a year after his inital cancer diagnosis.


Darren Dutchyshen last appeared on SportsCentre right before Christmas 2023, but almost 5 months later, he suddenly passes away at age 57.


Dutchy will forever be missed across the Canadian sports & broadcasting communites.
