Special Bulletin - Mark Carney to be sworn in as Prime Minister on Friday


Various sources confirm that Mark Carney will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Canada, effective Friday.

This comes after Carney won the Liberal Party of Canada's leadership election, with nearly 87% of the vote, last Sunday.

The leadership election came to a surprise as Justin Trudeau resigned as Prime Minister of Canada, and leader of the Federal Liberals on January 6th.

Carney was the Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013, afterwards he was the Governor of the Bank of England until 2020.

He will become the 24th prime minister at a ceremony at Rideau Hall Friday, after the formal resignation of Trudeau.

Several TV networks may have to alter their schedules on Friday, due to the swearing in of Carney as the new Canadian prime minister.

Explaining the Big Canadian Specialty Channel Shuffle of 2024-25

With less than 2 weeks until the calendar flips to 2025, there's some big changes to the Canadian specialty channel landscape, and that's because Rogers Sports & Media announced a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery's factual brands back in June, but some providers won't get the new Rogers channels that have WBD programs, including Bell, and a result, Corus Entertainment and Bell Media announced that some channels that had WBD programs will change names between the end of 2024 and the start of 2025! Here's a breakdown of the changes of these specialty channels that are impacted, by company: Bell Media Discovery Channel becomes USA Network, Investigation Discovery becomes Oxygen, Discovery Science becomes CTV Nature, Discovery Velocity becomes CTV Speed, and Animal Planet becomes CTV Wild, all of which will happen on January 1, 2025.
