The Week That Was In Worldwide Media - September 21, 2025
On this week's edition on "The Week That Was In Worldwide Media", we breakdown the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show on ABC, major changes at CTV News last Monday, and the TV ratings for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards!
Here's the breakdown of the top 3 stories of what happened this week in worldwide media:
Story #1: Jimmy Kimmel Live is pulled from ABC indefinitely
On September 17th, ABC announced that Jimmy Kimmel's late night talk show has been suspended indefinitely after the two of its major affiliate groups, Nexstar and Sinclair, announce they would preempt the late-night talk show over his comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk during the September 15th episode.
Afterwards, ABC aired a rerun of Celebrity Family Feud on the night of Kimmel's indefinite suspension, while Canadian simulcast partner Citytv aired a rerun of Hudson & Rex on the night of Kimmel's indefinite suspension, afterwards, it was reruns of Impractical Jokers.
In the days after Kimmel's indefinite suspension, fellow late-night talk show hosts were mocking about the suspension of the long-time late night talk show host, including the Monday host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart.
Story #2: September 15th: A big day for CTV News
On September 15th, local CTV stations in 6 regions rebranded their local "CTV Morning Live" shows into the "Your Morning" brand, expanding the national brand into the local footprint.
Also on the same day, former Global News anchor Carolyn Jarvis joins CTV News Channel as a late-afternoon host, airing from 3pm ET to 4:30pm ET.
Last but not least, CFCF-DT (CTV Montreal) got a new virtual studio for their newscasts, over a year after a watermain break near Papineau and René-Lévesque destroyed the camera and field equipments.
The new virtual studio for CFCF-DT (CTV Montreal) is shared with French-language sister network Noovo's debate program, which started last year, a few months after the flood.
Story #3: Primetime Emmy TV Viewership highest since 2021
Last Sunday's Primetime Emmy Awards on CBS scored 7.59 million viewers, the highest viewership for the Primetime Emmy Awards since 2021, which was also televised on CBS and it was watched by 7.83 million viewers.
It is a slight increase from the 6.9 million viewers who watched last year's ceremony on ABC, but here in Canada, it was televised on CTV2 for the 3rd straight time due to NFL commitments.
My Observations for the week ahead
