The Week That Was In Worldwide Media - September 14, 2025

On this week's edition on "The Week That Was In Worldwide Media", we recap the TV ratings for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, the debut of 2 new American game shows in syndication, and 2 radio stations in Brockville moving to a brand-new studio!

Here's the breakdown of the top 3 stories of what happened this week in worldwide media:

Story #1: MTV VMAs score the best TV viewership in 6 years

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards aired last Sunday (September 7th) on CBS, MTV, and streamed on Paramount+ with the premium plan, and the cermony scored 5.5 million viewers across multiple platforms, up from 42% in the previous edition, the highest VMA viewership since the 2019 ceremony that was hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco.

Ariana Grande won Video of the Year for her song "Brighter Days Ahead", Rosé and Bruno Mars won Song of the Year for their collab "APT.", Lady Gaga won Artist of the Year for the 2nd time, and Alex Warren won the VMA for Best New Artist.

Story #2: 2 new game shows premiere in first-run syndication across the United States

This past Monday (September 8th), 2 new game shows debuted in first-run syndication across the United States, the first being Michael Yo's Scrambled Up, the other being The Perfect Line, hosted by Deborah Norville.

Norville just wrapped up her 30-year run as a host for Inside Edition (also in syndication), being replaced by Eva Pilgrim.

Michael Yo is no stranger to non-scripted shows, having appeared on America's Got Talent and Fear Factor before.

Story #3: My Broadcasting Corporation stations in Brockville move to new studios

After 57 years at 601 Stewart Blvd, My Broadcasting Corporation's recently acquired stations in Brockville moved to a new studio last Friday (September 12th), now broadcasting from an industrial complex at 100 Strowger Blvd.

Soon-to-be-retired Bruce Wylie was the last announcer to broadcast at 601 Stewart Blvd, with Edward Bear's "Last Song" being the final song played at the Stewart Blvd studios, while Kenny Loggins' "Footloose" was the first song to be played at the new location.

CFJR-FM and CJPT-FM switched to MBC's MyFM and Giant FM brands respectively, on March 24th, after the CRTC approved the sale of the 2 ex-Bell Media radio stations to MBC on February 26th.

My Observations for the week ahead

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards hosted by Nate Bargatze airs tonight on CTV2, with CBS simsub in most Canadian markets.

I'll be watching the new game shows that debuted in syndication later this week.

And that concludes this edition of "The Week That Was In Worldwide Media", come back next week where we'll recap the top stories that happened in worldwide media!
