The Week That Was In Worldwide Media - November 16, 2025
On this week's edition of "The Week That Was In Worldwide Media", we'll breakdown a longtime cable news network in the United States changing names, Project Runway Canada returns after a 16-year hiatus, and a Winnipeg TV personality joins the CFWM-FM morning show!
Here's the breakdown of the top 3 stories of what happened this week in worldwide media:
Story #1: MSNBC rebrands as MS NOW after 29 years
As of yesterday at 7am ET, MSNBC was relaunched as MS NOW, amid the channel's split with NBC News.
It comes less than a year after NBCUniversal announced its intent to spin off most of its cable networks to a new subsidiary called Versant.
The last program under the MSNBC brand was the weekend edition of Morning Joe, while the first program under the new brand was The Weekend.
Rolling news blocks under the (anchor name) Reports will continue to air on the channel, but the primetime programs that air on Monday to Friday will also remain on the channel.
As a result of the rebrand, CNBC still retains the iconic NBC peacock symbol (for now) until the channel gets a new look in the next coming months.
Story #2: Project Runway Canada comes back after a 16-year hiatus, albeit on Crave
For the first time since 2009, Project Runway Canada is airing, but exclusively on Bell Media's streaming service Crave.
The show originally debuted on Slice in 2007, a few months after the Life Network changed their name to Slice, but the show later moved to sister OTA network Global in 2009.
The new incarnation of Project Runway Canada is hosted by longtime supermodel Coco Rocha (also as a judge), with Jeanne Beker and Spencer Badu as judges, and Aurora James doing the Mentorship.
Sponsors of the new version of Project Runway Canada include TD, L’OrĂ©al Paris, Cashmere, Giant Tiger, and Joe Fresh.
The show will stream new episodes on Crave every Friday until January 16, 2026.
Story #3: Gabrielle Marchand joins the Bounce 99.9 morning show
As announced on CTV Your Morning Winnipeg last Friday, Winnipeg TV personality Gabrielle Marchand is the new morning show co-host at Bounce 99.9 (CFWM-FM).
Marchand originally hails from North Battleford, SK, landing her first reporting job at Global Saskatoon. After completing a Bachelor of Professional Communications degree at Royal Roads University in Victoria, she continued her broadcast career as an anchor at the Thunder Bay TV twinstick CKPR-DT and CHFD-DT until joining CKY-DT in 2017, after which she moved on to Global Winnipeg (CKND-DT) as a morning news anchor.
She joins the morning show with veteran announcer Beau (aka Wolfgang Frietzche) who has been doing mornings solo since early 2023.
Bounce Mornings with Beau and Gabby debuts on December 1st, after Frietzche's previously-scheduled knee replacement surgery.
